✧ A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: "How was the beginning of your affair, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "My wet nurse was from Banu Sa'd b. Bakr. I set out with a son of hers to tend some young livestock of ours, and we did not take any provisions with us. I said: 'O my brother, go and bring us some provisions from our mother.' My brother went, and I stayed with the livestock. Then two white birds came, like two eagles. One of them said to the other: 'Is it him?' He said: 'Yes.' They came hurrying to me, seized me, laid me on my back, split open my belly, then extracted my heart and split it, and took out from it two black clots. One of them said to the other – Yazid said in his narration: 'Bring me snow water' – and they washed my interior with it. Then he said: 'Bring me hail water' and they washed my heart with it. Then he said: 'Bring me tranquility (al-sakinah)' and he sprinkled it into my heart. Then one of them said to the other: 'Sew him up' and he sewed him up and sealed him with the seal of prophethood. – Haywah said in his narration: 'Sew him up' and he sewed him up, and 'Seal him with the seal of prophethood.' Then one of them said to the other: 'Place him in one scale pan and place a thousand of his community in the other scale pan.' And I looked at the thousand above me, fearing that some of them would fall on me. He said: 'If his community were weighed against him, he would outweigh them.' Then they left me, and I was in a state of intense fear. Then I went to my mother and told her what I had encountered. She feared that something had been done to me and said: 'I seek refuge for you in Allah.' She saddled a camel of hers and placed me – Yazid said: she carried me – on the saddle, and she rode behind me until we reached my mother (i.e., his biological mother). She said: 'Have I fulfilled my trust and my responsibility?' And she told her what I had encountered. That did not alarm her, and she said: 'I saw a light come out of me that illuminated the palaces of al-Sham.'"
