✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned the Dajjal one morning, and he lowered and raised [his voice] concerning him, until we thought he was among the palm trees. When we went to him, he recognized that in our faces. We asked him, saying: 'O Messenger of Allah, you mentioned the Dajjal this morning, and you lowered and raised [your voice] concerning him, until we thought he was among the palm trees.' He said: 'Other than the Dajjal is more frightening to me for you. If he emerges while I am among you, I will be his opponent on your behalf. If he emerges while I am not among you, then each person is his own opponent, and Allah is my deputy over every Muslim. He is a young man with curly hair, his eye is defective. He will emerge from a gap between Syria and Iraq, and he will wreak havoc right and left. O servants of Allah, be steadfast.' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, how long will he remain on earth?' He said: 'Forty days: a day like a year, a day like a month, a day like a week, and the rest of his days like your days.' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, that day which is like a year, will the prayer of one day and night suffice us in it?' He said: 'No, estimate for it its proper measure.' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, how fast will he travel on earth?' He said: 'Like rain driven by the wind.' He said: 'He will pass by a tribe and call them, and they will respond to him. He will command the sky and it will rain, and the earth and it will sprout. Their herds will return to them in the evening, taller in humps than they ever were, fuller in flanks, and more abundant in udders. He will pass by a tribe and call them, but they reject his words, so their wealth will follow him, and they will wake up barren, with nothing of their wealth left. He will pass by ruins and say to them: Bring out your treasures, and their treasures will follow him like swarms of bees.' He said: 'He will order a man to be killed, and he will strike him with a sword, cutting him into two halves, like the distance of a thrown spear. Then he will call him, and the man will come to him with his face beaming.' He said: 'While he is doing that, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will send the Messiah, son of Maryam. He will descend at the white minaret east of Damascus, between two yellow garments, placing his hands on the wings of two angels. He will pursue him and catch him, and kill him at the eastern gate of Ludd.' He said: 'While they are like that, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will reveal to Isa son of Maryam ﷺ: I have brought forth servants of Mine whom no one can fight. So gather My servants to the Mount. Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will send forth Gog and Magog, and they will come down from every slope, as Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said. Isa and his companions will beseech Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and He will send upon them worms in their necks, and they will die as one soul. Then Isa and his companions will descend, and they will not find a house on earth but that their stench and filth have filled it. Isa and his companions will beseech Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and He will send upon them birds with necks like those of Bukhti camels, which will carry them off and throw them wherever Allah, Mighty and Majestic, wills.' Ibn Jabir said: Ata b. Yazid al-Saksaki narrated to me from Kab or someone else: 'They will be thrown at al-Mahbil.' Ibn Jabir said: I said: 'O Abu Yazid, where is al-Mahbil?' He said: 'The place of sunrise.' He said: 'Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will send rain that no house of mud or hair can shelter from, for forty days, and it will wash the earth until it leaves it like a mirror. It will be said to the earth: Bring forth your fruit and restore your blessing.' He said: 'On that day, a group will eat from a single pomegranate and seek shade under its rind. Milk will be blessed, so that one milking camel will suffice a large group of people, one cow will suffice a tribe, and one sheep will suffice a household.' He said: 'While they are like that, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will send a pleasant wind that will take them under their armpits and seize the soul of every Muslim—or he said every believer—and the worst of people will remain, copulating like donkeys, and upon them—or he said upon him—the Hour will be established.'
