✧ Ya'ala bin Mura Althaqafi on the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ عَمْرُو بْنِ يَعْلَى الثَّقَفِيِّ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ مُرَّةَ قَالَ
كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ مَسَحَ وُجُوهَ أَصْحَابِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُكَبِّرَ، فَأَصَبْتُ شَيْئًا مِنْ خَلُوقٍ، فَمَسَحَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وُجُوهَ أَصْحَابِهِ، وَتَرَكَنِي، قَالَ: فَرَجَعْتُ وَغَسَلْتُهُ، ثُمَّ جِئْتُ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ الْأُخْرَى، فَمَسَحَ وَجْهِي، وَقَالَ: « عَادَ لخَيْرِ دِينِهِ الْعُلَا، تَابَ وَاسْتَهَلَّتِ السَّمَاءُ
Translation

✧ Whenever the Prophet ﷺ stood for prayer, he would wipe the faces of his companions before saying the takbir. I had gotten some perfume on me, and the Prophet ﷺ wiped the faces of his companions and left me out. He said: I went back and washed it off, then came to the next prayer, and he wiped my face and said: “He returned to the best of his religion, the highest; he repented, and the sky poured down rain.”
