✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ sent Abū ʿUbaydah b. al-Jarrāḥ to al-Baḥrayn to bring its jizyah, and the Messenger of God ﷺ had made a treaty with the people of al-Baḥrayn and appointed al-ʿAlāʾ b. al-Ḥaḍramī over them. Abū ʿUbaydah arrived with wealth from al-Baḥrayn, and the Anṣār heard of his arrival and came to the dawn prayer with the Messenger of God ﷺ. When the Messenger of God ﷺ finished the dawn prayer, he turned away, and they presented themselves to him. The Messenger of God ﷺ smiled when he saw them and said, 'I think you have heard that Abū ʿUbaydah has come, and come with something.' They said, 'Yes, O Messenger of God.' He said, 'Then rejoice and hope for what pleases you. By God, it is not poverty that I fear for you, but I fear that the world will be spread out before you as it was spread out before those before you, and you will compete over it as they competed, and it will distract you as it distracted them.'
