حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ حَدَّثَنَا صَفْوَانُ حَدَّثَنِي الْمَشْيَخَةُ
أَنَّهُمْ حَضَرُوا غُضَيْفَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ الثُّمَالِيَّ حِينَ اشْتَدَّ سَوْقُهُ فَقَالَ: هَلْ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ يَقْرَأُ يس ؟ قَالَ: فَقَرَأَهَا صَالِحُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ السَّكُونِيُّ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ أَرْبَعِينَ مِنْهَا قُبِضَ، قَالَ: وَكَانَ الْمَشْيَخَةُ يَقُولُونَ: إِذَا قُرِئَتْ عِنْدَ الْمَيْتِ خُفِّفَ عَنْهُ بِهَا، قَالَ صَفْوَانُ: وَقَرَأَهَا عِيسَى بْنُ الْمَعْمَرِ عِنْدَ ابْنِ مَعْبَدٍ
Translation

They were present with Ghudayf b. al-Harith al-Thumali when he was on his deathbed. He asked if there was anyone among them who could recite "Ya-Sin." So, Salih b. Shurayh al-Sakuni recited it, and when he reached the fortieth verse, Ghudayf passed away. The elders used to say that when "Ya-Sin" is recited in the presence of someone who is dying, their suffering is alleviated. Safwan mentioned that Isa b. al-Mu'tamir recited it for Ibn Ma'bad.
