حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ
أَنَّهُ رَأَى مُعَاوِيَةَ يَخْطُبُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَفِي يَدِهِ قُصَّةٌ مِنْ شَعَرٍ، قَالَ: فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ ؟ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذِهِ، وَقَالَ: إِنَّمَا عُذِّبَ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَتْ هَذِهِ نِسَاؤُهُمْ

✧ He saw Muʿāwiyah delivering a sermon on the pulpit with a lock of hair in his hand. He said: I heard him say: 'Where are your scholars, O people of Madinah? I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ forbidding the like of this, and he said: The Children of Israel were punished only when their women adopted this.'
