✧ Muḥammad b. Jubayr b. Muṭʿim narrated that it reached Muʿāwiyah—while he was with him in a delegation from Quraysh—that ʿAbd Allah b. ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ narrated that there would be a king from Qaḥṭān. Muʿāwiyah became angry, stood up, praised Allah, Mighty and Majestic, as He deserves, then said: To proceed: it has reached me that men among you narrate ḥadīths that are not in the Book of Allah and are not transmitted from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Those are your ignorant ones. Beware of false hopes that mislead their people. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: This affair is in Quraysh; no one disputes them in it except that Allah throws him on his face—as long as they uphold the religion.
