حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي قَاصُّ أَهْلِ فِلَسْطِينَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ يَقُولُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ
ثَلَاثٌ- وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ - إِنْ كُنْتُ لَحَالِفًا عَلَيْهِنَّ: لَا يَنْقُصُ مَالٌ مِنْ صَدَقَةٍ، فَتَصَدَّقُوا، وَلَا يَعْفُو عَبْدٌ عَنْ مَظْلِمَةٍ يَبْتَغِي بِهَا وَجْهَ اللهِ إِلَّا رَفَعَهُ اللهُ بِهَا عِزًّا، وَقَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ: إِلَّا زَادَهُ اللهُ بِهَا عِزًّا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ، وَلَا يَفْتَحُ عَبْدٌ بَابَ مَسْأَلَةٍ إِلَّا فَتَحَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ بَابَ فَقْرٍ

✧ Three things—by Him in whose hand is Muhammad's soul—I would swear to them: Wealth does not decrease because of charity, so give charity. A servant does not forgive an injustice, seeking thereby the face of God, except that God raises him in honor by it. Abu Saʿid, the freedman of Banu Hashim, said: 'except that God increases him in honor by it on the Day of Resurrection.' And a servant does not open a door of begging except that God opens upon him a door of poverty.

machine translationYūnus b. Khabbāb narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Manṣūr b. al-Muʿtamir narrated it, and there is disagreement about him. Muḥammad b. ʿUmārah al-Qurashī narrated it from al-Thawrī, from Manṣūr, from Yūnus b. Khabbāb, from Abū Salamah, from Umm Salamah; ʿAlī b. Ḥarb related it from him. ʿAlī b. Ḥarb had once related it from memory from al-Qāsim al-Jarmī, from al-Thawrī, and a group transmitted it from him in this way. Then he retracted it and related it from Muḥammad b. ʿUmārah al-Qurashī, from al-Thawrī. Others narrate it from al-Thawrī, from Manṣūr, from Yūnus b. Khabbāb, from Abū Salamah as a mursal report. ʿAmr b. Mujammiʿ contradicted him and narrated it from Yūnus b. Khabbāb, from Abū Salamah, from his brother, from the storyteller of Palestine, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf. The mursal version is closer to being correct.
