✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ after he had finished with the people of Badr, bringing the offspring of a horse of mine called al-Qarḥā'. I said: "O Muhammad, I have brought you the offspring of al-Qarḥā' for you to take." He said: "I have no need of it. If you want, I will exchange it with you for the choice armor from Badr." I said: "I would not exchange it today for a slave." He said: "I have no need of it." Then he said: "O Dhū al-Jawshan, will you not embrace Islam, and be among the first people of this matter?" I said: "No." He asked: "Why?" I said: "I saw your people have become infatuated with you." He asked: "How did you hear about their deaths at Badr?" I said: "It reached me." He said: "We will guide you." I said: "If you conquer the Kaaba and settle in it." He said: "Perhaps if you live, you will see that." Then he said: "O Bilal, take the man's saddlebag and provision him with pressed dates." When I turned away, he said: "Indeed, he is among the best horsemen of Banū 'Āmir." By Allah, while I was with my family at al-Ghawr, a rider came, and I asked: "What have the people done?" He said: "By Allah, Muhammad has conquered the Kaaba and settled in it." I said: "May my mother be bereaved of me! If I had embraced Islam that day and then asked him for al-Ḥīrah, he would have given it to me as an estate."
