حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُبَارَكُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ أَنَّ شَيْخًا مِنْ بَنِي سَلِيطٍ
أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أُكَلِّمُهُ فِي سَبْيٍ أُصِيبَ لَنَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَإِذَا هُوَ قَاعِدٌ وَعَلَيْهِ حَلْقَةٌ قَدْ أَطَافَتْ بِهِ، وَهُوَ يُحَدِّثُ الْقَوْمَ، عَلَيْهِ إِزَارٌ قِطْرٌ لَهُ غَلِيظٌ، [فَأَوَّلُ شَيْءٍ]: سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ وَهُوَ يُشِيرُ بِإِصْبَعِهِ: الْمُسْلِمُ أَخُو الْمُسْلِمِ لَا يَظْلِمُهُ وَلَا يَخْذُلُهُ، التَّقْوَى هَاهُنَا، التَّقْوَى هَاهُنَا يَقُولُ: أَيْ فِي الْقَلْبِ

✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ to speak with him about captives taken from us in the pre-Islamic era. He was sitting with a circle of people around him, talking to the people, wearing a thick lower garment made of coarse cloth. The first thing I heard him say, while pointing with his finger, was: "The Muslim is the brother of the Muslim; he does not wrong him, nor does he abandon him. Piety is here, piety is here," meaning in the heart.
