Musnad Ahmad 16584

Translation

✧ That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came, and he had left Sa'd ill when he went out to Hunayn. When he returned from al-Ji'rana performing 'umra, he entered upon him while he was sick and overcome. He said: “O Messenger of Allah, I have wealth and I will be inherited by distant relatives, so should I bequeath all my wealth or give it in charity?” He said: “No.” He said: “Should I bequeath two-thirds of it?” He said: “No.” He said: “Should I bequeath half of it?” He said: “No.” He said: “Should I bequeath a third of it?” He said: “Yes, and that is much.” He said: “O Messenger of Allah, will I die in the land from which I emigrated?” He said: “I hope that Allah will raise you, so that through you He will strike some peoples and benefit others. O 'Amr b. al-Qari, if Sa'd dies after me, then bury him here, toward the road to al-Madina,” and he pointed with his hand like this.
