حَدَّثَنَا مَكِّيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ قَالَ
بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، ثُمَّ عَدَلْتُ إِلَى ظِلِّ شَجَرَةٍ، فَلَمَّا خَفَّ النَّاسُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: يَا ابْنَ الْأَكْوَعِ أَلَا تُبَايِعُ ؟ قُلْتُ: قَدْ بَايَعْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: وَأَيْضًا، قَالَ: فَبَايَعْتُ الثَّانِيَةَ، قَالَ يَزِيدُ: فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ، عَلَى أَيِّ شَيْءٍ تُبَايِعُونَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ؟ قَالَ: عَلَى الْمَوْتِ
Translation

✧ I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of God ﷺ, then I turned aside to the shade of a tree. When the people thinned out around the Messenger of God ﷺ, he said: “O Ibn al-Akwaʿ, will you not pledge allegiance?” I said: “I have already pledged allegiance, O Messenger of God.” He said: “And also again.” He said: So I pledged allegiance a second time. Yazīd said: I said: “O Abū Muslim, on what were you pledging allegiance that day?” He said: “On death.”
