✧ We returned with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until when we were at al-Kadid—or he said Qudayd—some men among us began seeking his permission to go to their families, and he would grant them permission. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood, praised and extolled Allah, then said: 'What is the matter with men that the side of the tree nearest to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is more hateful to them than the other side?' At that, we saw none of the people except one weeping. A man said: 'The one who seeks your permission after this is indeed foolish.' He praised Allah and then said: 'I bear witness before Allah that no servant dies bearing witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah, truthfully from his heart, and then remains upright, except that he will be admitted to Paradise.' He said: 'And my Lord, Mighty and Exalted, has promised me that He will admit seventy thousand of my community without reckoning or punishment. And I hope that they will not enter it until you and the righteous among your fathers, your wives, and your offspring take up dwellings in Paradise.' And he said: 'When half the night—or he said two-thirds of the night—has passed, Allah, Mighty and Exalted, descends to the lowest heaven and says: I do not ask about My servants anyone other than Myself. Who seeks My forgiveness that I may forgive him? Who calls upon Me that I may answer him? Who asks of Me that I may give him?—until dawn breaks.'
