حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي غَرَزَةَ قَالَ

كُنَّا نُسَمَّى عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ السَّمَاسِرَةَ، فَمَرَّ بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَسَمَّانَا بِاسْمٍ هُوَ أَحْسَنُ مِنْهُ، فَقَالَ: يَا مَعْشَرَ التُّجَّارِ، إِنَّ هَذَا الْبَيْعَ يَحْضُرُهُ اللَّغْوُ وَالْحَلِفُ، فَشُوبُوهُ بِالصَّدَقَةِ

Translation

✧ We used to be called al-samāsirah (brokers) in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by us and named us with a name that is better than it. He said: 'O company of merchants, indeed this selling is attended by idle talk and swearing, so mix it with charity.'
