✧ I entered with Wathila b. al-Asqaʿ upon Abu al-Aswad al-Jurashi during the illness in which he died. He greeted him and sat down. He said: Abu al-Aswad took Wathila's right hand and wiped it over his eyes and face because of the oath of allegiance he had sworn to the Messenger of God ﷺ with it. Wathila said to him, 'One thing I ask you about.' He said, 'What is it?' He said, 'What is your expectation of your Lord?' He said: Abu al-Aswad said, and gestured with his head, meaning 'good.' Wathila said, 'Rejoice, for I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: God, Mighty and Majestic, said: I am as My servant expects Me to be, so let him expect of Me whatever he wishes.'
