✧ Malik b. Nudlah, Father of Abu al-Ahwas

حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزُ بْنُ أَسَدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ

أَنَّ أَبَاهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، وَهُوَ أَشْعَثُ، سَيِّئُ الْهَيْئَةِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أَمَا لَكَ مَالٌ؟ قَالَ: مِنْ كُلِّ الْمَالِ قَدْ آتَانِي اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، قَالَ: فَإِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِذَا أَنْعَمَ عَلَى عَبْدٍ نِعْمَةً أَحَبَّ أَنْ تُرَى عَلَيْهِ

Translation

✧ That his father came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was disheveled and of bad appearance. The Messenger of God ﷺ said to him: "Do you not have wealth?" He said: "God, Mighty and Majestic, has given me of every kind of wealth." He said: "Indeed, when God, Mighty and Majestic, bestows a blessing upon a servant, He loves that it be seen on him."
