✧ He commanded his companions to set out on a military expedition. A man stayed behind and said to his family: I will stay behind until I pray the noon prayer with the Messenger of God ﷺ, then greet him and bid him farewell, so that he may supplicate for me with a supplication that will intercede for me on the Day of Resurrection. When the Prophet ﷺ had prayed, the man came and greeted him. The Messenger of God ﷺ said to him: Do you know by how much your companions have outdistanced you? He said: Yes, they outdistanced me by their early departure. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: By the One in whose hand is my soul, they have outdistanced you in virtue by as much as the distance between the two easts and the two wests.
