✧ I asked Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas about bad omens (tiyarah), and he rebuked me and said: 'Who told you about this?' I disliked to tell him who told me. He said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There is no contagion, no bad omen, and no hamah. If there is a bad omen in anything, it is in the horse, the woman, and the house. And if you hear of a plague in a land, do not go down to it; and if it occurs in a land while you are there, do not flee from it."'

machine translationThis is a hadith narrated by Yaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr, and there is disagreement about it from him. Yazīd b. Hārūn narrated it from Hishām, from Yaḥyā, from Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab, from Saʿd. He was contradicted by Muʿādh b. Hishām and Muḥammad b. Abī ʿAdī, who narrated it from Hishām, from Yaḥyā, from al-Ḥaḍramī, from Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab, and this is the correct (ṣawāb) version. The Shaykh said: Some people said that al-Ḥaḍramī is b. Lāḥiq.
