✧ He said: By Allah, we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Khaybar one evening when a flock of sheep belonging to a Jew approached, heading for their fortress while we were besieging them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Is there a man who can feed us from these sheep? Abu al-Yasar said: I said: I, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Then do it. He said: I went out running swiftly like an ostrich. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw me turning away, he said: O Allah, let us enjoy him. He said: I caught up with the sheep while their front had already entered the fortress, and I seized two sheep from the rear of the flock and clutched them under my arms. Then I came back running swiftly as if I was carrying nothing, until I threw them down before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They slaughtered them and ate them. Abu al-Yasar was among the last of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to pass away. Whenever he narrated this hadith, he would weep, then say: They were made to enjoy me; by my life, [until] I was the last of them.
