حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَطَاءٍ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ
رَأَيْتُ السَّائِبَ يَشُمُّ ثَوْبَهُ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: مِمَّ ذَاكَ ؟ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: لَا وُضُوءَ إِلَّا مِنْ رِيحٍ أَوْ سَمَاعٍ

✧ He said, "I saw the wanderer sniffing his clothes, so I asked him, 'Why are you doing that?' He replied, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'There is no ablution except with water or by hearing the sound of running water.'"
