✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited us in our home and said: “Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.” He said: Saʿd returned the greeting in a low voice. Qays said: I said: “Will you not give permission to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?!” He said: “Let him be, that he may increase the greeting upon us.” Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah,” and Saʿd returned the greeting in a low voice. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned back, and Saʿd followed him and said: “O Messenger of Allah, I was hearing your greeting and was returning it to you in a low voice so that you might increase the greeting upon us.” He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned back with him, and Saʿd ordered a bath for him, and it was prepared, and he bathed. Then he handed him — or he said: they handed him — a wrapper dyed with saffron and wars, and he wrapped himself in it. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands and said: “O Allah, place Your blessings and Your mercy upon the family of Saʿd b. ʿUbādah.” He said: Then he partook of the food. When he wanted to leave, Saʿd brought near to him a donkey that he had cushioned with a velvet cloth, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rode it. Saʿd said: “O Qays, accompany the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” Qays said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Ride,” but I refused. Then he said: “Either you ride or you leave,” so I left.
