✧ That he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say on the day of the conquest of Makkah: 'No Qurayshi shall be killed by execution after today.' No one from the disobedient Quraysh embraced Islam except Muti', and his name was 'Asi, so the Prophet ﷺ named him Muti'.

machine translationFirās narrated it from al-Shaʿbī, from Muṭīʿ b. al-Aswad, without mentioning ʿAbdullāh b. Muṭīʿ in it. But the hadith is the hadith of Zakariyyā and Ibn Abī al-Safar. It was asked: what about the hadith of Dāwūd b. Mihrān, from Sufyān, from Zakariyyā, from al-Shaʿbī, from Muṭīʿ, from the Prophet ﷺ? He said: it is as Firās said. It was asked: what about the hadith narrated from Abū Kurayb, from Muʿāwiyah b. Hishām, from Sufyān al-Thawrī, from Firās, from ʿĀmir, who said: Muṭīʿ b. ʿĀmir said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said...? He said: it is preserved (maḥfūẓ).

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationZakariyyā b. Abī Zāʾidah and ʿAbdullāh b. Abī al-Safar narrated it from al-Shaʿbī, from ʿAbdullāh b. Muṭīʿ, from his father. A group narrated it from Zakariyyā, among them Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān, ʿAlī b. Mushir, Wakīʿ, Ibn ʿUyaynah, ʿĪsā b. Yūnus and Jaʿfar b. ʿAwn. There is disagreement about it from him: Yūsuf al-Qaṭṭān narrated it from Jaʿfar b. ʿAwn, from Ismāʿīl b. Abī Khālid, from al-Shaʿbī, while others narrate it from Jaʿfar b. ʿAwn, from Zakariyyā, and that is the correct one.
