✧ O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Allah has granted me victory over the polytheists today, so give me this sword. He said: "This sword is neither yours nor mine. Put it down." He said: So I put it down, then returned and said, "Perhaps this sword will be given today to someone who was not put to the test as I was." He said: Then a man was calling me from behind. He said: I said, "Has something been revealed concerning me?" He said: "You had asked me for the sword, and it was not mine, but it has now been bestowed upon me, so it is yours." He said: Then this verse was revealed: "They ask you about the spoils. Say: The spoils belong to Allah ﷻ and the Messenger ﷺ." [Al-Anfal: 1]
