✧ Safwan b. Umayyah b. Khalaf was told: 'Those who did not emigrate have perished.' He said: I said: 'I will not reach my family until I come to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' So I mounted my riding beast and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, they claim that those who did not emigrate have perished?' He said: 'Not at all, Abu Wahb. Return to the valleys of Makkah.' He said: While I was sleeping, a thief came and took my garment from under my head. I caught him and brought him to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'This man stole my garment.' He ﷺ ordered that his hand be cut off. He said: I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, that is not what I intended. It is a charity for him.' He said: 'Why not before you brought him to me?'
