✧ Al-Abbas was holding the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was taking our pledge. When we finished, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I took and I gave." So I asked Jabir that day, "How did you pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when you were at the peak of death?" He said, "No, but we pledged allegiance to him not to run away." I said, "Did you witness the day of the tree?" He said, "I was holding the hand of Umar ibn al-Khattab until we pledged allegiance to him." I said, "How many were you?" He said, "We were fourteen hundred and we all pledged allegiance to him except Al-Jadd ibn Qais who hid under the belly of a camel. On that day, we sacrificed seventy camels for every group of seven."
