✧ We were with the Messenger of God ﷺ on a campaign—he said: they think it was the campaign of Banu al-Mustaliq—when a man from the Emigrants kicked a man from the Helpers from behind. The Helper said, 'O Helpers!' and the Emigrant said, 'O Emigrants!' The Prophet ﷺ heard that and said, 'What is this call of the Age of Ignorance?' It was said, 'A man from the Emigrants kicked a man from the Helpers from behind.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Leave it, for it is stinking.' Jabir said: The Emigrants, when they came to Madinah, were fewer than the Helpers; then the Emigrants became numerous. That reached Abdullah b. Ubayy, and he said, 'They have done it. By God, if we return to Madinah, the more honored will expel the more humble from it.' Umar heard that and came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of God, let me strike the neck of this hypocrite.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'O Umar, leave him, lest people talk that Muhammad kills his companions.'
