✧ I entered upon Jabir b. Abdullah al-Ansari, the brother of Banu Salimah, and with me were Muhammad b. 'Amr b. Hasan b. 'Ali and Abu al-Asbat, a freedman of Abdullah b. Ja'far who used to seek knowledge. He said: We asked him about ablution after eating food touched by fire. He said: I went out seeking the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in his mosque but did not find him. I asked about him and was told: 'He is at al-Aswaf with the daughters of Sa'd b. al-Rabi', the brother of al-Harith b. al-Harith b. al-Khazraj, dividing their inheritance from their father among them.' He said: They were the first women to inherit from their father in Islam. He said: So I went out until I came to al-Aswaf, which was the property of Sa'd b. al-Rabi', and I found the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in an enclosure of palm trees that had been sprinkled with water for him, and he was in it. He said: Then a midday meal of bread and meat that had been prepared for him was brought, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ate and the people ate with him. He said: Then he urinated, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution for the noon prayer and the people performed ablution with him. He said: Then he led them in the noon prayer. He said: Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat for some of what remained of his division for them until the prayer time came and he finished his task with them. He said: Then they brought back to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the leftover of his midday meal of bread and meat, and he ate and the people ate with him. He said: Then he got up and led us in the afternoon prayer without touching water, nor did anyone of the people.
