حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ
أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ وُلِدَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُسَمِّيَهُ مُحَمَّدًا فَكَأَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوهُ فَحَمَلَهُ عَلَى عَاتِقِهِ فَأَتَى بِهِ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي، وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
Translation

✧ A boy was born to a man of the Ansar, and he wanted to name him Muhammad. It was as though they disliked that. He carried him on his shoulder and brought him to the Messenger of God ﷺ. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Name yourselves with my name, but do not use my kunyah."
