✧ The Prophet ﷺ came to visit him while he was in Makkah, and he disliked dying in the land from which he had emigrated. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'May Allah have mercy on Sa'd b. 'Afra'. May Allah have mercy on Sa'd b. 'Afra'.' He had only one daughter. He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, should I bequeath all my wealth?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Then half?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Then a third?' He said: 'A third, and a third is a lot. If you leave your heirs wealthy, it is better than leaving them poor, begging from people. Whatever you spend is charity, even the morsel you raise to your wife's mouth. Perhaps Allah will raise you so that some people benefit through you and others are harmed through you.'

Ibrāhīm also narrated it, and there is disagreement about him concerning it: al-Thawrī narrated it from Saʿd, from ʿĀmir b. Saʿd, from his father; and Misʿar said, from Saʿd: "Some of the family of Saʿd narrated to me, from Saʿd." And it is sound (ṣaḥīḥ) from ʿĀmir b. Saʿd, from his father, through the narration of al-Zuhrī and through the narration of Saʿd b. Ibrāhīm.
