✧ Hatib b. Abi Balta'ah wrote to the people of Makkah mentioning that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to raid them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was directed to the woman who had the letter, so he sent for her and her letter was taken from her head. He said: 'O Hatib, did you do this?' He said: 'Yes. Indeed, I did not do it out of treachery to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — and Yunus said: treachery, O Messenger of Allah — nor out of hypocrisy. I knew that Allah would make His Messenger victorious and complete his affair, but I was a man of standing among them, and my mother was with them, so I wanted to secure this favor with them.' 'Umar said to him: 'Shall I not strike off this man's head?' He said: 'Would you kill a man from the people of Badr? What do you know? Perhaps Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has looked upon the people of Badr and said: "Do as you wish."'
