✧ A monk from Syria sent the Messenger of God ﷺ a robe of fine silk as a gift, and the Prophet ﷺ put it on. Then he went to the House and took it off, and he was informed of a delegation coming to him. Umar b. al-Khattab ordered him to put on the robe for the arrival of the delegation. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Wearing it does not befit us in this world, but wearing it will befit us in the Hereafter. However, take it, O Umar.' He said: 'You dislike it and I should take it?!' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'I am not commanding you to wear it, but send it to the land of Persia and obtain some wealth with it.' Umar refused, so the Prophet ﷺ sent it to the Negus, who had been kind to those of Muhammad's ﷺ companions who had fled to him.
