حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ
سَأَلْتُ جَابِرًا، عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَتَوَلَّى مَوْلَى الرَّجُلِ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِهِ فَقَالَ: كَتَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى كُلِّ بَطْنٍ عُقُولَهُمْ ثُمَّ كَتَبَ: إِنَّهُ لَا يَحِلُّ أَنْ يُتَوَلَّى مَوْلَى رَجُلٍ مُسْلِمٍ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِهِ.

✧ I asked Jabir about a man who takes as a client (mawla) the freed slave of another man without his permission. He said: "The Messenger of God ﷺ wrote for every clan their blood-money, then he wrote: 'It is not lawful to take as a client the freed slave of a Muslim man without his permission.'"
