✧ I heard Jābir b. ʿAbd Allāh while he was in Makkah saying: The Messenger of God ﷺ said in the year of the conquest: “God [mighty and glorious] and His Messenger have forbidden the sale of wine, carrion, pigs, and idols.” It was said to him then: “O Messenger of God, what about the fat of carrion? Ships are greased with it, hides are greased with it, and people use it for lamps.” He said: “No, it is forbidden.” Then the Messenger of God ﷺ said at that: “May God fight the Jews! When God [mighty and glorious] forbade them fat, they rendered it, then sold it and consumed its price.”
