✧ The sun eclipsed during the time of [the Messenger of Allah] ﷺ, and that was the day on which Ibrahim ﷺ, the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, died. The people said: "The sun has eclipsed only because of the death of Ibrahim." The Prophet ﷺ stood up and led the people in prayer with six bowings and four prostrations. He said the takbir, then recited and prolonged the recitation, then bowed for about as long as he had stood, then raised his head and recited less than the first recitation, then bowed for about as long as he had stood, then raised his head and recited a recitation less than the second recitation, then bowed for about as long as he had stood, then raised his head and descended into prostration and prostrated twice. Then he stood up and bowed three times before prostrating, in which there was no bowing except that the one before it was longer than the one after it, except that his bowing was about the same as his standing. Then he stepped back in his prayer, and the rows stepped back with him. Then he stepped forward and stood in his place, and the rows stepped forward. He completed the prayer after the sun had risen. Then he said: "O people, the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and they do not eclipse for the death of any human being. So when you see anything of that, pray until it clears. Indeed, there is nothing of what you are promised except that I have seen it in this prayer of mine. The Fire was brought, and that was when you saw me step back, fearing that some of its scorching heat would touch me, until I said: 'O Lord, am I to be among them?' And I saw in it the owner of the crooked staff dragging his intestines in the Fire. He used to steal from the pilgrims with his crooked staff, and if he was noticed, he would say: 'It only got caught on my staff,' but if no one noticed him, he would take it. And I saw in it the woman who tied up a cat, neither feeding it nor letting it eat from the vermin of the earth until it died of hunger. And Paradise was brought, and that was when you saw me step forward until I stood in my place. I stretched out my hand, wanting to take some of its fruit so that you could look at it, but then it occurred to me not to do so."
