✧ I was with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey. When we approached Madinah, I said, “O Messenger of Allah, I am newly married, so permit me to go ahead to my family.” He said, “Have you married?” I said, “Yes.” He said, “A virgin or a previously married woman?” I said, “A previously married woman.” He said, “Why not a virgin, so that you could play with her and she could play with you?” I said, “Abdullah has died and left young girls in my care, and I disliked bringing someone like them to them.” He said, “Do not come to your family at night.” I was on a camel that became ill, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ caught up with me while I was at the rear of the people. He said, “What is wrong with you, O Jabir?” I said, “My camel has become ill.” He took hold of its tail and urged it on. Then I was at the front of the people, concerned about its head. When we approached Madinah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, “What happened to the camel?” I said, “Here it is.” He said, “Sell it to me.” I said, “No, rather it is yours.” He said, “Sell it to me.” I said, “It is yours.” He said, “No, I have taken it for an uqiyyah. Ride it, and when you arrive, bring it to us.” When I arrived in Madinah, I brought it to him. He said, “O Bilal, weigh for him an uqiyyah and add a qirat.” I said, “This qirat which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me extra will never leave me until I die.” I put it in a pouch, and it remained with me until the people of Syria came on the day of al-Harrah and took it among what they took.
