Translation

✧ Mu'adh used to pray with the Messenger of God ﷺ, then he would return and lead us in prayer—or he said once: then he would return and pray with his people. One night the Prophet ﷺ delayed—once he said: the prayer, and once he said: the Isha prayer. Mu'adh prayed with the Prophet ﷺ, then he came to lead his people and recited al-Baqarah. A man from the people withdrew and prayed alone. It was said, 'You have become a hypocrite, O so-and-so.' He said, 'I have not become a hypocrite.' He went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of God, Mu'adh prays with you, then he returns and leads us. We are owners of water-carrying camels and we work with our own hands. He came to lead us and recited Surat al-Baqarah.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'O Mu'adh, are you a troublemaker? Are you a troublemaker? Recite such-and-such.' Abu al-Zubayr said: 'Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High' and 'By the night when it covers'.
