✧ The only 'umra (life grant) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted is when one says: It is for you and your descendants. But if he says: It is for you as long as you live, then it reverts to its owner.

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Taḥāwī

machine translationThis hadith, according to those who oppose them, indicates only the words of al-Zuhrī, and ʿAbd al-Razzāq erred in it, making it from Maʿmar, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Salamah, from Jābir with those words. The evidence for this is that someone who is a better memorizer than ʿAbd al-Razzāq, namely Ibn al-Mubārak, narrated it from Maʿmar in a way contrary to that.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 14280
  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationA sound (ṣaḥīḥ) hadith. There is no point in the words of whoever criticized it, because Maʿmar is among the most reliable of people in narrating from Ibn Shihāb and the best of them in transmitting from him.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 14280
