✧ On the day of Hunayn, Hawazin and Ghatafan gathered a large force against the Prophet ﷺ, while the Prophet ﷺ that day was among ten thousand or more than ten thousand, and with him were the freed captives. They brought cattle and children and placed them behind their backs. When the two sides met, the people fled. The Prophet ﷺ was that day on a white mule. He dismounted and said: 'I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger.' He made two calls that day, between which no speech was mixed. He turned to his right and said: 'O company of the Ansar!' They said: 'At your service, O Messenger of Allah, go ahead and we are with you.' Then he turned to his left and said: 'O company of the Ansar!' They said: 'At your service, O Messenger of Allah, we are with you.' Then he descended to the ground, and they met the enemy, routed them, and seized spoils. The Prophet ﷺ gave to the freed captives and divided among them. The Ansar said: 'We are called at times of hardship, but the spoils are divided among others.' That reached the Prophet ﷺ, so he gathered them and sat in a tent and said: 'O company of the Ansar, what is this talk that has reached me from you?' They were silent. Then he said: 'O company of the Ansar, if the people took one valley and the Ansar took a mountain pass, I would take the mountain pass of the Ansar.' Then he said: 'Are you not pleased that the people go with this world and you go with the Messenger of Allah, taking him to your homes?' They said: 'We are pleased, O Messenger of Allah, we are pleased.'
