✧ Horses were sent forth in the time of al-Hajjaj, and al-Hakam b. Ayyub was governor over al-Basra. He said: We came to the race, and when the horses arrived, we said: If only we could go to Anas b. Malik and ask him: Did you hold races in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? So we went to him while he was in his palace in the corner, and we asked him, saying: O Abu Hamzah, did you hold races in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ hold races? He said: Yes, by Allah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ held a race on a horse of his called Sabhah, and it outpaced the people; so he rejoiced at that and it pleased him.
