✧ Umar and I left the noon prayer when Hisham b. Isma'il led the people while he was governor of Madinah, and went to Amr b. Abd Allah b. Abi Talhah to visit him in an illness he had. He said: We did not sit, and we only asked about him while standing. He said: Then we left and entered upon Anas b. Malik in his house, which was next to the house of Abu Talhah. He said: When we sat down, a slave girl came to him and said: “The prayer, O Abu Hamzah.” He said: We said: “Which prayer, may God have mercy on you?” He said: “The afternoon prayer.” He said: We said: “We have just prayed the noon prayer.” He said: He said: “You have neglected the prayer until you forgot it—or he said: you were made to forget it—until you neglected it. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: ‘I was sent and the Hour are like these two,’ and he extended his two fingers, the index and the middle.”
