حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ قَالَ قَالَ
مُرَّ بِشَيْخٍ كَبِيرٍ يُهَادَى بَيْنَ ابْنَيْهِ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ: مَا بَالُ هَذَا ؟ قَالُوا: نَذَرَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنْ يَمْشِيَ، قَالَ: إِنَّ اللهَ [عَزَّ وَجَلَّ] عَنْ تَعْذِيبِ هَذَا نَفْسَهُ لَغَنِيٌّ؛ فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَرْكَبَ فَرَكِبَ
Translation
Chain of narrators

✧ A very old man was being supported between his two sons. He said: 'What is the matter with him?' They said: 'He made a vow, O Messenger of Allah, to walk.' He said: 'Indeed Allah [Mighty and Majestic] is free from need of this man's tormenting himself; so he commanded him to ride, and he rode.'
