✧ We came to Anas b. Mālik on a Thursday, and he called for his table and invited them to lunch. Some of the people ate and some refrained. Then they came to him on a Monday, and he did the same: he called for his table and invited them to lunch. Some of the people ate and some refrained. Anas b. Mālik said to them: “Perhaps you are Monday-people? Perhaps you are Thursday-people? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast and would not break his fast until we would say: ‘It is not in the Messenger of Allah’s mind to break his fast this year.’ Then he would break his fast and not fast until we would say: ‘It is not in his mind to fast this year.’ And the fasting most beloved to him was in Shaʿbān.”
