حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ طَهْمَانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا قَالَ
كَانَتْ زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ جَحْشٍ تَفْخَرُ عَلَى نِسَاءِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ؛ تَقُولُ: إِنَّ اللهَ [عَزَّ وَجَلَّ] أَنْكَحَنِي مِنَ السَّمَاءِ. وَأَطْعَمَ عَلَيْهَا يَوْمَئِذٍ خُبْزًا وَلَحْمًا، وَكَانَ الْقَوْمُ جُلُوسًا كَمَا هُمْ فِي الْبَيْتِ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ؛ فَخَرَجَ فَلَبِثَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ أَنْ يَلْبَثَ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ وَالْقَوْمُ جُلُوسٌ كَمَا هُمْ، فَشَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ وَعُرِفَ فِي وَجْهِهِ، فَنَزَلَ آيَةُ الْحِجَابِ
Translation

✧ Zaynab bt. Jahsh used to boast over the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, saying: Allah [Mighty and Majestic] married me from heaven. And he fed on her behalf that day bread and meat. The people were sitting as they were in the house, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and went out, and remained as long as Allah willed him to remain. Then he returned while the people were still sitting as they were, and that distressed him, and it was seen in his face. Then the verse of the veil was revealed.
