حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ زَيْدٍ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ

لَا يَتَمَنَّى الْمُؤْمِنُ - أَوْ قَالَ: أَحَدُكُمُ - الْمَوْتَ، فَإِنْ كَانَ لَا بُدَّ فَاعِلًا فَلْيَقُلِ: اللَّهُمَّ أَحْيِنِي مَا كَانَتِ الْحَيَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي، وَتَوَفَّنِي مَا كَانَتِ الْوَفَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي

Translation

Chain of narrators

  4. Anas Yuḥaddith
  5. al-Nabī ﷺ

✧ Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ, that he said, "A believer should never wish for death. But if he must, then let him say: 'O Allah, let me live as long as life is good for me and let me die when death is good for me.'"
