✧ Some people from the Ansar said on the day of Hunayn, when Allah granted His Messenger the spoils of Hawazin and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began giving a hundred camels to each of certain men from Quraysh: 'May Allah forgive the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; he gives to Quraysh and leaves us, while our swords are still dripping with their blood.' Anas said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was told of their statement, so he sent for the Ansar and gathered them in a leather tent, not calling anyone else with them. When they had gathered, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to them and said, "What is this talk that has reached me from you?" The Ansar said, "As for our leaders, they have said nothing; but some young men among us said such-and-such, for what they said." The Prophet ﷺ said, "I give to men who are new in disbelief, to bring their hearts together—or he said, 'to win their hearts'—are you not pleased that the people go with the wealth while you return with the Messenger of Allah to your homes? By Allah, what you return with is better than what they return with." They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah, we are pleased." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, "You will find after me severe selfishness, so be patient until you meet Allah and His Messenger, for I am your forerunner at the Hawd." Anas said: "But we did not remain patient."
