✧ We set out to Syria, to 'Abd al-Malik, and we were forty men from the Ansar, so that he might assign us stipends. When we returned and were at Fajj al-Naqah, he led us in the noon prayer with two rak'ahs. Then he said the salam and entered his tent, and the people got up and added two more rak'ahs to his two. He said: 'May God disfigure the faces! By God, they neither followed the Sunnah nor accepted the concession. I testify that I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: Some people go to extremes in religion and pass through it as an arrow passes through its target.'
