Musnad Ahmad 12242

Translation

✧ The site of the Prophet's mosque ﷺ belonged to the Banu al-Najjar. In it were palm trees, cultivated land, and graves from the graves of the Jahiliyyah. The Messenger of God ﷺ said to them, "Sell it to me." They said, "We do not seek a price for it except from God, Mighty and Majestic." So the Messenger of God ﷺ ordered the palm trees to be cut down, the cultivated land to be cleared, and the graves to be exhumed. Before that, the Messenger of God ﷺ used to pray in sheep enclosures and wherever prayer overtook him.
