✧ Safiyyah fell to the share of Dihyah al-Kalbi. It was said to the Messenger of God ﷺ, "A beautiful slave girl has fallen to the share of Dihyah." So the Messenger of God ﷺ bought her from him for seven heads of livestock, and placed her with Umm Sulaym until she was prepared and completed her waiting period, as far as Hammad knew. The people said, "By God, we do not know whether the Messenger of God ﷺ married her or took her as a concubine." When he mounted her behind him and screened her, the people knew that he had married her. When he drew near to Madinah, the people hastened, and the Messenger of God ﷺ hastened, and that is what they used to do. The she-camel stumbled, and the Messenger of God ﷺ fell and she fell with him, while the wives of the Prophet ﷺ were looking on. They said, "May God distance the Jewess!" and did such-and-such to her. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ stood up, screened her, and mounted her behind him.
