حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

لَا يَتَمَنَّيَنَّ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَوْتَ لِضُرٍّ نَزَلَ بِهِ، وَلَكِنْ لِيَقُلِ: اللَّهُمَّ أَحْيِنِي مَا كَانَتِ الْحَيَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي، وَتَوَفَّنِي إِذَا كَانَتِ الْوَفَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Ibn Abū ʿAdī
  2. Ḥumayd
  3. Anas
  4. Rasūl Allāh ﷺ

✧ None of you should ever wish for death because of harm that has befallen him. Rather, let him say: O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and take me when death is better for me.
