  2. Sulaymān b. Bilāl

  4. ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār
  5. Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī

✧ When one of you doubts in his prayer and does not know whether he prayed three or four, let him discard the doubt and build upon what he is certain of, then prostrate twice before he gives the greeting. If he had prayed five, they would make his prayer even. Musa said once: "If he had prayed five, they would make his prayer even for him. And if he had prayed a complete four, they would be a humiliation for Satan."

  • Qurṭubī

machine translationThe hadith of Abū Saʿīd: Mālik transmitted it as a mursal report from ʿAṭāʾ, while others transmitted it with a connected chain (musnad). This is therefore an inconsistency (iḍṭirāb) in it, and yielding to that is more preferable.
